Scores of illegal traders evicted from Accra Mall

The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly in Accra has evicted scores of illegal traders who had overtaken the walkway of Accra Mall and other parts of the assembly.

Several shops and wares were destroyed in the operation which started around 4: am Wednesday amidst heavy military and police presence.

According to the assembly, the move is to clear the walkway as part of efforts to make the capital city clean.

Hundreds of hawkers and traders took over the pavement of the Mall and other unapproved areas to conduct their business.

The MCE for La Dadekotopon, Gladys Man Dede, said that even though his outfit had held several meetings with the leadership of the traders in order to get them an alternative place, the traders have refused to move.

Chief Supt. Oduro Amaning, the La Police Commander said the area will be monitored to ensure that the traders do not return.

He also indicated that officials of the assembly who would be found taking money from traders will not be spared.
